I started memorizing Scripture early on in my life. My dad was a pastor and would guide us kids in memorizing certain passages from the Bible. I was also part of an AWANA program for kids that helped us memorize verses. During this time the longest passage I memorized was Philippians 2:1-11, but I never really thought about memorizing bigger passages than that.

My scripture memory journey began out of desperation. About ten years ago, I was a successful, young professional and newlywed. Yet, despite all of the good in my life, my mind was full of fear, anxiety, and negativity. At her Christian Women’s Club meeting, my mom heard Janet Pope talk about memorizing entire passages. She bought Janet’s book, and we both dove into memorizing passages.

In June 2010, my Mother died. She was my friend, my prayer warrior. She left behind a great legacy. A mother of 10 children. A little over 4 years ago, I walked back into church after an act of disobedience. I knew I needed healing when I walked away from the Lord. I also decided to follow my mom’s example by starting each morning with a cup of coffee, a Bible and a small devotional guide. For I knew only God could make my path straight (Proverbs 3:5-6).
