In 1873, an ocean liner on a transatlantic voyage collided with another vessel and sank within minutes claiming the lives of 226 people. Among the passengers were Mrs. Anna Spafford and her four young daughters. When the ship went down, Mrs. Spafford survived but her four daughters perished.
